May SLP Link Up

Thanks to Oh, How Pintearesting for providing the Link Up for May!  Please go to her blog here for the directions for this fun link up!

Buying: All about Moms this weekend!  Need to get plants, not only for my front yard, but for the moms in my life!

Hearting: I definitely have spring fever!  It is so nice to have warm weather and more daylight.  Spending time outside with my kids is so much more enjoyable than, let’s say, Annual Reviews, IEPs, and writing reports!  It seemed like this winter was never going to end.  It makes me so happy to see flowers blooming and leaves on the trees.  It is such a beautiful time of year, even though my allergies have been out of control lately.

Sharing: Some Juniors and Seniors in the high school where I work asked me to speak to them about becoming an SLP.  That was so exciting.  I had some brochures from ASHA that I had ordered several years ago, so I was able to hand them out and then talk about requirements for college and graduate school and about my experiences from private practice, to a private special ed school, to working in a district.  It was fun, and it was nice to meet with such a wonderful bunch of kids.

Making: To go with the plants, my kids are going to finish making homemade cards for the grandmothers.  I always have a picture in my head, which of course, is never the same picture that my kids have in their heads.  I don’t mind (most of the time anyway, LOL), the cards will be cute no matter what!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there!

  1. Happy Mother's Day to you! I love that you got to speak with high schoolers. Our job is SO great but not that many people know exactly what we do!

    1. It was fun, so happy it was not in front of a whole class though. One came to see me about setting it up, and then they came to me during lunch.

  2. You are not the only one with spring fever! We had our first ~80 degree day here in NY and the weather has been beautiful ever since.

    1. I am in NY as well. I actually have the beginnings of a tan, saw a very faint line on my arms today... This weather puts me in a good mood!

  3. I think spring fever has hit the nation! I love that you have students who are interested in the field! We have a HS student (a boy!) who spends a few mornings a week helping out in a preschool class because he wants to be either an SLP or ABA therapist working with kids who have autism! I love that HS kids are seeing this field as an option!

  5. Spring fever is the BEST! I LOVE SPRING! It's my favorite time of year. :) So you talked with high schoolers about SLP? You are braver than I. I'm more of the PK age kind of girl. Did it look like any students were interested in what we do? Did they ask questions or just stare at you like you have two heads? I hope it was the former. Anyway, thanks for sharing. Loving reading all the link ups!

  8. I bet you had a great time speaking about being an SLP! It's great to think that something you say can push someone to want to do what we do!
